Milwuakee
There is a real shortage of good live music venues in Madison, maybe even more so in Milwuakee.  We are lucky to play at the Ale House, it's been there for a long time and has always had bands.  I remember going there when I was 20 years old and seeing Greg Koch and the [...]

rock bottom
I do believe that no one is reading these blogs of mine.  For a while I was featured under the blog heading on the website, but no more.  Thats ok though, most of my blog posts were shit anyways.  Just ramblings about how cool I am supposed to be, what a rockstar life I lead. [...]

Like a Purgin'
So I got the flu... I hate getting sick, but whatever, every year about this time it seems to happen.  I spent an entire night ridding my body of everything it had in it.  I mean everything.  Seemed to me like a good time for a fresh start. Some backstory,.,,  We had our trailer stolen, it [...]

The Ghosts in the Barn
Silence.  I am in the silence business these days.  Not all silence is created equal.  The silence at night after a huge snow in Wisconsin differs immensely from the silence in a tiny basement apartment 4 blocks from the Pacific Ocean in Hermosa Beach, CA, or a monstrous church that has been designed to make [...]

I’ve never been on what most people consider a real road trip. Nothing across country, sleeping in my car, or driving through the mountains. I guess I’ve lived a sheltered life.

When we were asked to write a song influenced by summer, however, I started thinking about an experience I had one early summer during college. I knew a girl then who was going through a pretty rough patch, and one night we decided to just start driving. She and I didn’t get very far - which is really funny when I think of it now - but that wasn’t the point.

Anyway, that’s where this tune came from. One of the first nights of summer – the night you roll your windows down for the first time – and the closest thing I ever had to a real road trip.

Oh so young, so young then

Packed our dreams that we left unsaid

I brought my pride, she left her shame

She left her shame

Took to the road, to heal the pain

The pride of youth to light our way

Our time was short, the road was long

The road was long

She said

Give me the open road, give me the skies

Give me the summer breeze, oh it’s all I need

Give me the open road, give me the skies

Oh our redemption lies

Under the summer skies

She said, “Windows down, the summer’s here

Let’s ride this road ‘til she disappears

The dawn will break, it will wash us clean

It will wash us cleanâ€

She said

Give me the open road, give me the skies

Give me the summer breeze, oh it’s all I need

Give me the open road, give me the skies

Oh our redemption lies

Under the summer skies

Oh so young, so young then

Thanks for listening.

  1. You really need to go on a proper road trip. Everyone should at least once in their life. You don’t have to sleep in your car; unless you want to. Trust me, it will change your life.

  2. No doubt Kathryn. I need to get out there. I’ve got two little boys, and I’m pumped to get them out there on the road at some point. Maybe we’ll even sleep in our car. :)
