so i was waiting for the audio to be put up from monday night… i’m excited to hear the songs again. but i was cruising through the site and noticed that everyone else had a  ”mixtape for your boy-toy/gif” question yet mine was oddly missing?!
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
i almost to peed a little. it used to be up there… oh… something must seem a little funny about me. maybe it was a mistake, but part of me thinks it is a question. it’s okay, i’m not offended at all. i just find it amusing, i like elephants. not that it’s of anyone’s concern but yes, i am gay… i date girls. if you were wondering, you can stop and if you made a bet, i hope you won. i suppose you could call me the ellen of this here reality show, though she has a much better haircut… and probably better taste in music.
now that that is taken care of. i must say i really enjoyed this last challenge. i don’t have much experience playing with other people. i’m an odd creature when it comes to that and i never really let myself collaborate much. this competition has definitely changed my approach to writing, and i’m very grateful for that. also, i must give credit where it is due, and that my friend shane was vital in helping me figure out what to do with the duet… mainly because i needed a male perspective on it, i didn’t want mike to be uncomfortable with what he had to sing.
despite our short practice time, mike and i played well and we figured it out. with mike being out of state for shows and me being out of town for shows, we had a hell of a time trying to get together. my hope is that the judges listen again to how good the song is, i’m really proud of it and i’d rather it be judged on the musical and lyrical merits and not “how good it was for how little time” we had. that’s cynical, i know.
also, i have a bone to pick. i should have been in the top three this last week. i had fantastic comments from the judges, what the eff? all right, i’m over it.
the duets were all fantastic, it was great to see everyone show what they could do. this next week will be very interesting, i’ve got a lot to say about the last couple of months here in madison so i… must…. resist…. writing… a novel.
i’ve got to go make soup. don’t chop with dull knives… the will eff you up.
hugs.

I have to say that this was by far the most fun challenge we have had. It was such a pleasure working with Anna that it’s a little hard to go back to doing this on my own. Luckily, we have a good challenge for this week as well – something inspired by the recent political events in town. Lots of possibilities there. But a couple more thoughts about the duets first. I thought that the songs this week were better by a long shot than anything else this contest has produced so far. Each of the six songs could have won one of the previous challenges, and I’m glad I don’t have to pick a winner and someone to be cut. If you’re on here because you are a friend of mine, I strongly encourage you to listen to all the songs this week. I feel good about what Anna and I put together, and I hope you will enjoy it as well. Here are the lyrics for you, in typical non-spaced blog style. Thanks for listening – Jason
Oh my darling
I am awake and cannot sleep
I’ve been searching
For a faith that I can keep
But whenever
I truly dig down deep
I find my heart is filled with doubt
I find my heart is filled with doubt
Oh my darling
You don’t have to feel this way
There is comfort
All around you every day
You know I love you
More than words can say
But there is greater love than mine
There is greater love than mine
Oh my darling
I am not a great debater
People tell me
That the answers will come later
Still I wonder
Who created the creator
There is so much I can never know
So much I can never know
Oh my darling
You don’t have to know the truth
And we are too old
For the naiveté of youth
And even though
I can offer you no proof
I believe there is more than we can see
More to this world than we can see
Oh my darling
There is one thing that I know
And that’s forever
And wherever I may go
You will be with me
No matter what the end may show
And that will be enough for me
That will be enough for me

I got eliminated but luckily i can celebrate my sorrows away today. it’s been a great run and everyone in the competition was beautifully unique and real. monday nights will never be the same. what a humbling and maturing experience. props to jonathan, pat, and jimmy. Jonathan, you remind me of a less socially awkward Larry David. Pat, I’ll miss your random commentary and awkward sense of humor. Jimmie…you’re kind of my friend in real life so I’ll see you on the courts soon. Mark, you are super talented and have a great personality and attitude. Very likeable and shit. Frank, you are my favorite cuz you got the voice, the hair, and beard. You’re good at what you do. What blows my mind is that you are a father as well…you’re like a father-friend. Jason, i’m not gonna really compliment you n shit cuz you are winning all these challenges so you def. don’t need an ego-boost. chelsea, you are super unique and fresh. you def. impressed me more and more every challenge. anna, you have a beautiful voice and write beautiful lyrics. you’re really hot, too. ryan, brianna, anna…you all are great n I <3 you all. i’m just gettin lazy and need to hit this joint. happy 420 ya’ll!

If you have ever seen Walk Hard, my title is pretty funny.
First and foremost, I have to say that I am gonna miss having Charlie at the studio, he and I have become very good friends, and it won’t be the same without him. Â We have decided we will collaborate on something this summer.
Secondly, Beth Kille and I rocked this challenge hard…. Â I hope that it doesn’t come off as being cocky, but I knew all along that we had lightning in a bottle, and we let it out last night. Â I couldn’t be happier with the fact that we were paired together, or how the song turned out. Â The song was truly written by both of us, we put our souls into it and I hope it sounds/looks as good as it felt last night.
It was good to hang out with last years contestants, I hadn’t seen many of them in a long time. Â Some I had never met, and I am very glad I did. Â A bunch of us went out to The Laurel Tavern last night afterwards. Â Unfortunately I had to retire early, which was a shame because it was a good group of people and lots of good conversation was being had.
On a lighter note, I have the best of both worlds right now, my allergies are kickin my ass, and its snowing.. Sweet!
Mighty Short Bus shows this week are as follows; tonight at Majestic, Thursday at UW Stevens Point (Encore,) Friday  Busted Lift in Dubuque, Saturday  Between The Bluffs Wine, Cheese, and Beer Festival in LaCrosse 3:30 pm

hey. i haven’t updated this in a while! my bad! i’ve been so extremely busy with my life and it is changing at an ever so rapid pace that i haven’t had time to blog it all down . but i did have time to write a song with Paul Mitch in 2 hours and i decided to record it for your viewing pleasure. we’ll see how this performance compares to our performance at Project M.

i felt like a whipper-snapper this week. i was all over the damn place. i played a pretty laid-back show at Paradigm in Sheboygan with my good good friends Cody P. and Sammy B. It was the first time i’ve been able to see them perform live and they kicked my ass! My friend Kate came up with a nice nickname for the show. Cozy B. HAHAHAHA.
anyway, this week we had to write a duet with a partner from a previous season and i got Mike Droho. funny, he is a good friend of a friend and we had met in passing briefly. i’m really excited about this challenge, i’ve never written a duet before… not one that i actually got to perform. i was also pretty pumped because Mike has such an incredible voice… I think it’ll work out nicely.
the only thing about scheduling with other musicians… it’s like playing tag… figuring out a time that works for both of you is a little hectic. mike had shows out of the state most of the week and i was also all over the place so this had to take place over the internet.
but don’t get me wrong… it’s much easier than this:
holy balls.
i’ve gotta go practice for tomorrow.
love,

Does anyone remember the movie Duets that came out some time around 2000? Perhaps the worst movie of all time. I vaguely remember Huey Lewis singing with Gwyneth Paltrow, but I have tried to block the majority of it from my memory. Among my other all time least favorite movies – Morons from Outer Space, City of Angels, and Time Cop. Just for the record. The week’s challenge, however, is something that I am really excited about. I have been lucky enough to be paired up with Anna Laube, an incredibly talented singer and songwriter that you should all check out at www.annalaube.com. We are putting together a song that I was working on at the beginning of this contest, and that I am excited to share with you. We’re putting the finishing touches on this weekend when Anna gets back from a music festival in Minnesota, and we’ll be ready to go on Monday. Until then, thanks for listening.

Skunk Update:
I spent a Monday morning patching up the holes under the deck, as that’s where I suspected he was holding up. After crawling around the deck for a while I got a good look underneath and noticed a sizable hole under the front porch. The big tip off that it was Pepe’s home?…a black tuft of fur with a little white streak in it just outside the hole! SO…after doing some research on the interwebs, I closed off all possible escape routes but left one gaping hole open for him to leave thru that night. And then…I’m so freaking clever…I spread some flour around the escape hole to see if I could track the little guy leaving. When I got home I made sure to check for little tracks. Sadly the majority of the tracks seemed to be heading back under the porch. Still, I closed up the hole and hoped the skunk had set off for the night. Still no determination on whether the skunk is gone or not, but I’m trying a few different tactics that will hopefully let him know he is no longer welcome. More updates to come…
I hope you all liked my jingle for last week’s Project M challenge. I actually had an older jingle that Triple M’s been playing for a few years and when we got the jingle assignment I thought “Great, I have the week off!” But in the end, I decided to see if I could write an even better one for the contest, and I’m glad I did. I think it stood up well against the others, and it seemed like the judges dug it.
Congrats to Jason for winning the kid’s song challenge! If someone wants to “accidentally” clip him in the parking lot that’d be okay with me:)  He’s had some great tunes and seems to be the man to beat at the moment. Sad to say goodbye to Briana. She’s a talented songwriter and I’m always blown away by her voice. I’m sure you’ll be hearing alot more about her in the future!
I’m pumped to be working on this week’s challenge with one of last year’s finalists on Project M, Mr. Keefe Klug. I knew we’d be a good fit stylistically, and after getting together yesterday and working on our tune, I’m really excited about our performance on Monday! Keefe’s a talented guy and I’m sure you’re going to like our song “Picking It Up.”
I’ve got a show coming up this weekend at the 5th Quarter in Verona on Saturday at 9pm. With the weather we’re predicted to get this weekend, it’ll be a good alternative to staying inside your house all weekend!
Cheers,
MC
